Living as a young woman in Amsterdam, I found myself drawn to a style that was neither defined by the bold extravagance of American fashion nor the stark minimalism of Scandinavia. Rather, the creative scene mixes elevated essentials with one-of-a-kind finds, curating personal looks that truly reflect your individuality. It’s neither excessive nor overly minimal. Instead, it’s adaptable, and made for layering. Because with 197 rainy days a year, style here has to be as functional as it is fashionable.
I wanted to create a brand that embodied this spirit—one that seamlessly blends timeless design with everyday wearability. I saw a need for a platform that combines style, practicality, and ethical craftsmanship, offering thoughtfully designed, ethically made pieces from various brands.
That vision became Cleo. Soon after, Martin Rutrle and Pilar Madimin joined as co-founders, helping to bring the idea to life.
Et voilà—Cleo was born.
